Job Description

Overall purpose of this position:  

  • Under direction of Community Engagement Coordinator and Community Engagement Manager(s), provides clerical, informational, and operational support to staff, volunteers, and patrons. 
  • Works at assigned Nature/Visitor Center covering the information desk, aiding in programs throughout park district and provides customer service to the park staff, volunteers, and public. Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Proficiency with Internet communications and social media outlets. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees and patrons. 
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively when communicating one-on-one or in group settings. 
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative. 
  • Ability to create a welcoming atmosphere to patrons visiting the nature centers. 
  • Ability to develop and facilitate production schedules for center-led projects. 
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. 
  • Valid driver’s license with clear driving record.

  • Demonstrated self- awareness an accurate self-assessment, demonstrated sensitivity and empathy, demonstrated openness, reliability, and consistency. Proven track record of establishing and maintaining critical relationships. 
  • Employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk (often on uneven terrain), and communicate; required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; required to reach with hands and arms; required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
  • High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of one year of customer service and retail experience required. 
  • Certified in CPR, First Aid and AED use, or willing to obtain within one year. 
  • Certified host preferred.
  • Must successfully complete a probationary period and achieve successful screening results for drugs (including THC) and alcohol.
