Salary while on shift includes a holiday differential, FLSA differential, as well as a Paramedic differential. Differentials will be applied when serving in a paramedic/shift assignment after successful completion of the recruit academy and paramedic provisional assignment.
Work Schedule:
Firefighter/Paramedics work a 48x96 schedule.
ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is an independent Special District in Contra Costa County responsible for providing a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to the communities it serves. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The District serves a population of 194,607. The communities are primarily residential, commercial, office park, and controlled manufacturing, along with wildland areas, protected by nine stations and one volunteer staffed station with 185 employees, and 56 volunteers. Financial oversight and strategic policy direction are provided by an elected 5-member Board of Directors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following minimum qualifications are required:

Must possess a valid State of California Paramedic license with ACLS certification at time of appointment.
Must complete a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Firefighter I Academy.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED. College degree from an accredited university preferred.
Must possess a valid California driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District. Firefighter Endorsement or Commercial driver's license with applicable endorsements will be required by end of probationary period.
A current Health Care Provider CPR certification.
The following minimum qualifications are also required as outlined below:
Must possess a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) issued within the last 24 months, by time of conditional offer. CPAT not required for lateral appointments.
Current PHTLS or ITLS
and
PALS or PEPP certifications required by time of conditional offer of employment.
Must reside in California no more than 200 road miles of the Fire District Boundary by completion of the Fire/EMS Academy.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications are highly desirable. To ensure these certifications are considered during the application review, a copy of the certifications must be submitted, along with the required supporting documentation, at the time of application.
Firefighter II certification, Auto Extrication, Firefighter Survival, RIC Operations,
HazMat FRO, Rescue Systems I, Confined Space Operations, Driver/Operator 1A, EVOC
**NOTE: FOR OUT-OF-STATE CANDIDATES THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED AS OUTLINED BELOW:
Must possess a valid National Registry certification and valid ACLS certification at time of appointment. Must have applied for a State of California Paramedic license by time of application and must possess a valid State of California Paramedic license by time of appointment.
Must complete a Firefighter I Academy in another State or the Department of Defense (DoD) with an IFSAC and/or Pro Board seal. You will be required to provide proof of Firefighter I Academy completion. If the Firefighter I Academy completion certificate is issued by another State or the DoD you will be required to provide certificates with IFSAC and/or Pro Board seals showing you are certified to Firefighter I and HazMat Awareness/FRO.

Hours:
48 x 96 shift schedule.
Vacation : Accumulation rate increases with length of service. The initial rate is 14 hours per month.
Sick Leave : Accumulated at the rate of 18 hours per month indefinitely during tenure of career.
Insurance : Medical benefits are provided through CalPERS and include several PPO or HMO options. The District currently contributes 92% of monthly premiums for employee and dependent medical up to an established cap, and 100% for employee and dependent dental, vision, and EAP insurance, as well as 100% for life insurance for the employee only.
Retirement : Pension benefits are provided by Contra Costa County Employees' Retirement Association (CCCERA). Firefighter/Paramedics are classified as Safety Members. Eligibility and classification into the retirement system will be determined by CCCERA pursuant to the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) guidelines. Dependent upon CCCERA classification, employee retirement contributions will be determined pursuant to either PEPRA or District guidelines.
