Title:  Lab Assistant
Location:  New Haven, CT
Schedule:  M-F, 9 am - 5 pm
Type:  Contract to Hire

Responsibilities:
The Lab Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of our laboratory by focusing on media preparation, dishware management, and general lab maintenance. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for laboratory work and strong organizational skills.

• Prepare and sterilize growth media, buffers, and reagents following established protocols.
• Wash, sterilize, and organize laboratory glassware, plasticware, and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory environment, including workstations, storage areas, and common equipment.
• Autoclave biological waste, media, and lab tools as needed.
• Monitor and restock laboratory supplies, including media ingredients, dishware, and cleaning supplies.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, ensuring all waste is disposed of correctly.
• Support researchers with basic tasks as requested, including setting up experiments or assisting with sample preparation.
• Keep accurate records of media preparation and inventory, ensuring laboratory needs are consistently met.

Requirements:

• Associate’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field required (with school lab experience) or a High School degree with lab experience.
• Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques is preferred.
• Experience preparing media preferred.
• Experience with cleaning glassware (autoclave) preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer skills for maintaining records and inventory.
