Job Description
We've been helping families navigate the complexities of the college admissions process. Our organization is the largest college counseling group in the country, and our team of trained counselors provides guidance, perspective, and encouragement throughout the college journey. We don't just stop there—we've also seen the pressure that academic performance and test prep can create for students. We believe in a balanced approach, providing gifted instructors who unlock student potential while emphasizing a more realistic, healthy outlook on test prep and academics.
That's why we've created a better way for students to achieve academic success—our Academic Services team. Now, we're seeking enthusiastic, driven instructors to join us in this mission of helping students learn, grow, and thrive.
About the role
As a part-time tutor, you'll work one-on-one with students either in person at one of our offices or virtually via platforms like Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype. Depending on your area of expertise, you may also teach small group sessions. We require a minimum commitment of 10 hours a week, though the number of hours offered will depend on demand for your subject areas.
You'll be matched with students through one of our local offices. This means you'll have a built-in stream of students and won't need to spend time searching for clients. We're looking for tutors who bring passion and energy to every session—this role is about quality of engagement, not just the number of hours worked. You'll have the support of a dedicated manager who is committed to your success, and you'll be invited to team events and considered for awards that recognize your contributions. Many of our most valued tutors are part-timers who have become key members of the team, thriving in a role that allows them to do what they do best—teach.
Expect to work evenings and weekends when students are available, and be ready to engage with parents who may sometimes have questions or concerns. You'll have the full support of your local office and will work with families who genuinely appreciate the important work you're doing.
Who we're looking for
Here are the basics: You'll need a four-year college degree and must meet the following score requirements for your chosen subject areas:
ACT/SAT, Subject Tests, or AP exams: 99th percentile or above in relevant subjects
Academic subjects: 95th percentile on associated Subject Tests or Assessments
GRE/GMAT: 90th percentile or higher
Beyond test scores and degrees, we're looking for someone who approaches their work with passion and purpose. You see teaching as a craft and believe in helping students reach their fullest potential. You can relate well to teens but also maintain a professional demeanor with parents. You're dependable and always prepared, showing up on time and ready to make a difference.
We want someone who sees challenges as opportunities, especially when working with students who may be struggling. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, and you're eager to contribute to a smarter, more balanced approach to improving academic performance.
Compensation, start date, and benefits
The starting pay rate is $50 per hour. We're looking for tutors who can start as soon as possible, but we can be flexible with start dates for the right candidates. Part-time tutors may also qualify for health benefits (including medical, vision, and dental) and 401(k) matching after meeting eligibility requirements.
What's next?
If you're interested, we'd love to hear from you! Please send us a cover letter explaining why you're passionate about tutoring and how you help students achieve their goals. A thoughtful, personalized cover letter will help us get to know the real you, so be yourself—smart, sincere, and maybe even a little humorous. We can't wait to learn more about you!
